Intro. The Joy of Reunion
[Naomi Otachel] is a 5-year-old kindergarten girl living in Palatine, IL. In February 2021, Naomi, her friends, and the whole school faculty members gathered outside the school building. Naomi and her classmates took turns to read the essay they had each written, which was the assignment given by their teacher. The essay was about introducing their parents. When it was Naomi’s turn, she read what she had written about her father. She said, “My dad is in the Navy.” As a matter of a fact, her father, Konrad Otachel, a U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class, had been dispatched overseas. Naomi’s father had to leave his lovely daughter 15 months ago. Missing her dad dearly, Naomi said, “I wish my daddy was here.” She ended her essay hoping for her father’s safe return home.
When Naomi finished reading her essay, the school principal, Mrs. Mary Brinkman, approached her and said: “Naomi, God helps our dreams come true. Why don’t you look back?” When Naomi turned around, her father, whom she thought was thousands of miles away from her, was standing right in front of her. When Naomi saw her dad, she was overjoyed. At first, she could not believe that it was her dad who was standing right in front of her. So, her dad, Officer Konrad, approached her and gave his little daughter a tight hug. The military father and the young daughter, who had not met in a long time, hugged each other for a while, and everyone who witnessed this beautiful reunion gave a warm round of applause with happiness. Some shed tears of joy. The scene where the father, who was dispatched thousand miles away, was reunited with her beautiful daughter was very touching.
Have you ever been surprised to run into someone unexpectedly? How would you feel if you bumped into your favorite celebrity or your favorite sports athlete in real life? You would be very much surprised, and your heart would be full of excitement. How would we feel if we met famous sports stars someone like LeBron James or Stephen curry? I am sure that our youth students, who love K-pop, would probably scream with joy if they run into K-pop stars such as BTS or Blackpink.
It’s not only celebrities or athletes who we want to meet. For example, we want to meet our families back in Korea. We also have family members or close friends whom we don’t get a chance to see often because they live in other countries or different states. However, there are people who we cannot meet no matter how desperately we want it to happen. These are the loved ones who passed away. It’s impossible to see those people again. Please, take a moment to just imagine how you would feel if you were able to see them again. (To see our grandparents, our parents, our brothers, our sisters, our family members who is no longer with us in this world?) How much joy will it bring to us? The passage we read today is talking about two women who experienced the wonderful joy beyond words. It is the story of two women who saw and met resurrected Jesus with their own eyes after His crucifixion.
- An angel who brings the news of the Resurrection
Let’s read out the verse 1 again together. “(Mt 28:1) Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.” In today’s text, two Marys appear. [Mary Magdalene] and [Another Mary]. ‘Magdalene’ is the name of a village near Capernaum in Galilee, where Jesus mainly served His ministry. Mary Magdalene was originally a woman possessed by the seven demons. However, Jesus freed her from her suffering, and she became a devoted follower of Jesus. And ever since that day she had served the Lord. Another Mary is Joseph’s wife, the mother who gave birth to Jesus. Today’s sermon begins with the scene where these two women are going to the tomb where Jesus’ body laid.
In the 21st century, when a person dies, an undertaker pretty much takes care of everything for the dead body. He cleanses and dresses up the corpse and sometimes embalm the body to make it last longer. However, that wasn’t the case in the 1st century. There was no undertaker or funeral director to take care of the deceased. So, when a person died, close family members or acquaintances had to wash and dress their loved ones. During that time, Jewish funeral laws did not include mummification or embalming. But there was a custom of wrapping the body with a cloth soaked in perfume or incense after washing the dead ones.
Jesus was crucified on a Friday around 9 am, and He died around 3 pm. Sabbath day is Saturday, but it actually starts from Friday evening. And the Jews could not work on the Sabbath day according to the law. So on Friday, Joseph of Arimathea went to the governor Pontius Pilate and asked him to give him Jesus’ dead body. Joseph placed it in a new tomb that no one had ever used. To make everything done before the Sabbath, everything went so briskly that they had not enough time to properly wash and wrap Jesus’ dead body with perfume and incense. Mary Magdalene and Jesus’ mother Mary were heart broken. At least they wanted to treat Jesus’ dead body properly with respect. So, as soon as the dawn of Sunday broke, which is the sign that the Sabbath is over, the two women went to the tomb in order to wash and wrap Jesus’ dead body with incense and perfume.
No matter how much you love your family, it would still be a frightening experience to touch the body of someone who has already passed away. Moreover, in this story, it had been three days since Jesus died at the cross. By this time, the two women must have guessed that Jesus’ body had already been severely decomposed. And it would smell really bad. Nevertheless, these two women had decided to go into the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body. They left early in the morning right after the Sabbath was over. These two women must have truly loved Jesus. These women became the first witnesses to see the resurrected Jesus. Jesus loves those who love Him and those who search Him diligently will surely find Him.
The entrance to the tomb where Jesus’ body was placed was blocked by a large stone. This stone was installed by the governor Pilate to prevent anyone from stealing the body of Jesus. It required at least three or four strong men to roll the stone. On their way to the tomb, the women were concerned, “Who can roll that big and heavy stone blocking the entrance to the tomb for us?” However, as to their surprise, when they arrived at the tomb, the stone had already been moved, and the tomb’s entrance was wide open. When two women saw this, they thought that somebody had stolen Jesus’ body. However, in fact, the stone was not rolled by robbers, but surprisingly it was moved by an angel sent by God.
Let’s read out the gospel of Matthew 28:2-4. “(Mt 28:2) And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. (Mt 28:3) His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. (Mt 28:4) And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men.” For those of you wondering what does an angel look like, take a look at verse 3. His appearance was like lightning, and His clothes were said to be as white as snow. The angel came down from heaven with a strong earthquake, rolled away the stone blocking the entrance to the tomb, and sat on it. The guards who were guarding the tomb were terrified when they saw the angel. Due to their fear, the guards were lying flat on the ground as if they were dead already.
The angel came down from heaven to share the good news of the resurrection of Jesus. Let’s read out the message that the angel had delivered to these two women. Let’s read out Matthew 28:5-7. “(Mt 28:5) But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. (Mt 28:6) He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. (Mt 28:7) Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.””
There were three main points in the angel’s news. First, Jesus was risen just as He said! Second, come and see the empty tomb! Thirdly, go quickly and tell the disciples the news of Jesus’ resurrection. How did the women react when they heard the news of Jesus’ resurrection from the angel? Let’s look at Matthew 28:8. “(Mt 28:8) So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.” First, two women were in great fear because they had just met the angel, and on top of that, they heard the news that Jesus, who died on the cross, had overcame the power of death and rose again. They were in awe.
However, at the same time, their hearts were filled with great joy. Because if Jesus who had died on the cross was resurrected, it confirms that He is the Messiah, the Savior. And what Jesus had said and taught will be remained as the truth. The women greatly rejoiced at the thought of seeing the risen Jesus again. So, with joy, the women quickly ran to the place where the disciples were staying to share the good news.
- Reaction of women who met the resurrected Jesus
However, on their way, even more surprising event happened to them. Let’s read out the verse 9. “(Mt 28:9) And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him.” The resurrected Jesus Himself appeared to the women! Can you imagine the amount of thrill these two women must have gone through? How can we describe the emotion, the joy, and the happiness these women must have felt when they met the risen Jesus in person? The Bible says that these two women took hold of Jesus’ feet and worshiped Him.
When Jesus died on the cross, these two women were right there in front of Him. They witnessed and saw the nails penetrating Jesus’ hands and feet. They saw Jesus dying on the cross. They also saw the Roman soldier, piercing the spear deep into Jesus’ waist to confirm His death on the cross. There was no doubt that Jesus had died on the cross. And now, in verse 9, they met Jesus who rose from the dead, and He appeared in His glorified body. These women had no choice but to prostrate, bow down, before Jesus and worship him.
The Bible teaches us that there is only one being in this whole universe that we should worship, and He is God. Therefore, the fact that these women worshiped Jesus, shows us that they confessed Jesus as the Son of God. As a matter of a fact, the Bible says that Jesus is God Himself. Jesus is the Messiah whom God sent to save the sinners. Jesus is God. Anyone who realizes this truth will hold onto Jesus with joy and faith just like these two women. And they will bow down before Him and worship Him. May God give you faith to confess that Jesus is your Savior who has overcome the power of death. May God bless you to have faith to bow down before Him and worship Him. May God bless all of us here who have faith in Jesus just like these two women.
The resurrected Jesus said to the women: Verse 10. ” (Mt 28:10) Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”” Jesus told them to go to Galilee and share the good news with the disciples. So, the women went to the disciples right away as Jesus commanded them. The disciples who had heard this good news from these two women also shared the news with others, and those who heard the news of Jesus’ resurrection from the disciples, again shared it more and more people.
Churches and followers of Christ have been continuously sharing this good news for more than this past two thousand years. We are here this morning to celebrate our Lord’s resurrection. This could have been possible because there were people who had shared this good news with us. Now it’s our turn. There are many people in this world who still do not know about the death of Jesus on the cross and His resurrection. Jesus wants us to live by sharing this news every day. Is there anyone here who do not believe in the resurrection of Jesus? May God bless you with the gift of faith so that you may accept Jesus into your heart.
To sum up today’s message, two women who met risen Jesus had three responses. First, they had great joy in their hearts. Jesus’ resurrection is a sign that all believers and followers of Him will overcome the power of death on the last day and they will join His resurrection as well. So, to all believers in Jesus, the news of His resurrection gives them ultimate hope and great joy. Second, two women worshiped Jesus. They firmly believed that Jesus Christ, who conquered the death is the Messiah, their Savior sent by God. The moment we realize that Jesus had died on the cross and rose again from the dead for our sins, we too will bow down before our Lord Jesus and worship Him. Third, two women shared the news of Jesus’ resurrection. Anyone who believes in the news of Jesus’ resurrection has no choice but to share it with others. Because there is no greater event than this in this world.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, we did not witness the resurrection of Jesus with our own eyes like these two women. However, through the work of the Holy Spirit sent by God, we believe that Jesus overcame the power of death and that He was resurrected. This Faith is also a gift from God. Cornerstone, let us fill our hearts with joy every day through the risen Lord. Let us praise and worship the risen king. Let us go out into the world and share the good news of Jesus Christ. May God bless all of you to become the witnesses of Jesus’ resurrection.

서론. 재회의 기쁨
[Naomi Otachel]은 일리노이주 Palatine에 살고 있는 5살 유치원생 소녀입니다. 지난해 2021년 2월, 나오미와 그녀의 친구들은 학교 건물 밖에 모여 선생님이 미리 숙제로 내준 [부모님을 소개하는 글]을 차례대로 읽었습니다. Naomi 차례가 되자, 그녀는 학교 선생님들과 전교생이 지켜보는 가운데 그녀가 쓴 아버지에 대한 글을 읽었습니다. “My dad is in the Navy” 그녀의 아버지는 해외에 파병된 미 해군 1등 하사관 (Navy Petty Officer 1st Class)이었습니다. Naomi의 아버지는 15개월 전 파병을 위해 사랑하는 예쁜 딸 곁을 떠나야만 했습니다. Naomi는 멀리 떨어져 있는 아버지를 그리워하며 이렇게 말했습니다. “I wish my daddy was here.” 나오미는 글 마지막에 아버지가 무사히 집으로 돌아올 수 있도록 해달라는 글로 편지를 마쳤습니다.
나오미가 숙제로 써온 글을 다 읽은 후, Mary Brinkman 교장선생님께서 그녀에게 다가가 이렇게 말했습니다. “Naomi, God helps our dreams come true. Why don’t you turn around?”(나오미, 하나님은 우리들의 꿈이 이루어지도록 도와 주신단다. 한 번 뒤 돌아보지 않겠니?”) 나오미가 돌아서자, 그곳에는 멀리 수천 마일 떠나 있는 줄로만 알았던 아빠가 서 있었습니다. (Deployed soldier dad coming home to surprise his family. A few thousand miles away.) 나오미는 아빠를 보고 깜짝 놀랐습니다. 그녀는 눈 앞에 아빠를 보고도 믿을 수 없다는 표정을 짓고 있었습니다. 아빠가 먼저 다가가서 어린 딸을 꼬옥 안아 주었습니다. 오래간만에 만난 군인 아빠와 어린 딸은 서로 한참 동안 포옹을 했습니다, 사랑하는 아빠와 보고 싶었던 어린 딸이 서로 재회하는 아름다운 모습을 곁에서 지켜보던 모든 사람들도 행복해하며 따뜻한 박수를 쳐주었습니다. 어떤 이들은 감동의 눈물을 흘렸습니다. 수 천 마일 떨어진 곳에서 지내고 있는 줄 알았던 파견된 아버지가, 예쁜 딸을 만나는 장면은 참 감동적이었습니다.
혹시 너무나도 보고싶었던 사람을 예상치 않은 곳에서 만나 놀랐던 적은 없습니까? 여러분이 TV에서만 보았던 유명 연예인이나 여러분이 정말 좋아하는 스포츠 운동 선수가 들어와서 직접 그들을 볼 수 있게 된다면 기분이 어떨까요? 깜짝 놀랍고, 또 그들을 보았다는 설렘에 마음이 기쁠 것입니다. 농구를 좋아하는 분들은 LeBron James나 Stephen curry를 만나면 얼마나 좋을까요? K-pop을 좋아하는 우리 Youth 학생들은 BTS나 Blackpink 같은 K-pop 가수들을 만나면 아마도 기쁨에 소리를 지를지도 모르겠습니다.
우리가 보고 싶은 사람들이 꼭 연예인이나 운동 선수만 있는 것은 아닙니다. 멀리 타국이나 타주에 살고 있어서 자주 볼 수 없는 가족들도 보고 싶고, 친하게 지냈던 학창시절 친구들도 보고 싶습니다. 그러나 아무리 간절히 보고 싶어도 볼 수 없는 사람들도 있습니다. 바로 우리 보다 앞서 이 세상을 떠난 사랑하는 사람들입니다. 그런데 한 번 그들을 다시 볼 수 있다고 상상해 보십시오. 그 때의 감격이나 기쁨은 얼마나 크겠습니까? 오늘 본문은 바로 그 말로 표현할 수 없는 놀라운 기쁨을 맛본 두 여인에 대해서 이야기하고 있습니다. 바로 십자가에 달려 돌아가시고 부활하신 예수 그리스도를 직접 눈으로 본 두 여인에 대한 이야기입니다.
- 부활의 소식을 들려주는 천사
말씀을 함께 봅시다. “(마 28:1) 안식일이 다 지나고 안식 후 첫날이 되려는 새벽에 막달라 마리아와 다른 마리아가 무덤을 보려고 갔더니” 오늘 본문에는 두 명의 마리아가 등장합니다. [막달라 마리아]와 [또 다른 마리아]입니다. ‘막달라’라는 이름은 예수님께서 주로 사역하셨던 갈릴리 가버나움 인근의 마을 이름입니다. 이 지역 출신인 막달라 마리아는 본래 일곱 귀신들린 여자였습니다. 예수님께서 귀신들린 고통에서 그녀를 해방시켜 주셨고, 그녀는 그런 예수님께 감사하며 주님을 섬긴 여제자입니다. 또 다른 마리아는 바로 요셉의 아내이자 예수님을 낳아준 어머니 마리아입니다. 이 두 사람이 십자가에 달려 돌아가신 예수님의 시신이 안치되어 있는 무덤을 향해 가는 장면으로 오늘 말씀은 시작하고 있습니다.
오늘날에는 사람이 죽으면 Undertaker(장의사)가 와서 시신에 대한 처리를 도맡아 해줍니다. 시신을 닦고, 옷 입히는 일, 때로는 시체가 오래도록 유지되도록 방부 처리하는 일도 합니다. 그러나 신약시대 당시에는 장의사란 직업이 따로 없었기에, 사람이 죽으면 가까운 가족들이나 지인들이 직접 이 일을 해야만 했습니다. 당시 유대인의 장례법에는 미라를 만들거나 방부 처리하지는 않았습니다. 다만 시신을 씻은 다음에 향유나 향료가 스며든 천으로 시신을 감싸 놓는 풍습이 있었습니다.
예수님은 금요일 오전 9시 즈음 십자가에 달리셨고, 오후 3시 즈음 숨을 거두고 돌아가셨습니다. 토요일은 안식일이고, 유대인들은 안식일이 되면 안식일 율법의 명령에 따라 아무런 일도 할 수가 없었습니다. 아리마대 사람 요셉이 빌라도에게 가서 예수님의 시신을 달라 요청하였습니다. 아무도 사용한 적 없는 새무덤에 예수님의 시신을 안치해 두긴 했으나, 안식일이 다가와 시간이 모자란 탓에, 예수님의 시신에 향품을 바르지 못했습니다. 예수님의 시신을 제대로 처리하지 못했다는 사실이 막달라 마리아와 어머니 마리아의 마음을 아프게 했습니다. 그래서 이 두 여인은 안식일이 끝나는 새벽이 밝자 마자 예수님의 시신이 안치되어 있는 무덤을 향해 갔습니다. 그러니까 두 여인은 돌아가신 예수님의 시신에 향품을 바르기 위해 무덤으로 향하는 길입니다.
아무리 사랑하는 가족이라도 이미 싸늘하게 죽어버린 사람의 몸에 손을 대는 것은 얼마나 두려운 일인지 모릅니다. 게다가 예수님께서 돌아가신 지 이미 3일이나 된 상황입니다. 이 즈음이면 예수님의 시신이 이미 심하게 부패되는 것을 이 두 여인도 짐작하고 있었을 것입니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이 두 여인이 안식일이 끝나는 새벽 일찍부터 예수님의 시신에 향품을 바르기 위해 가는 모습을 보면 우리는 이 두 여인이 얼마나 예수님을 사랑했는지 알 수 있습니다. 성경은 이와 같이 진심으로 예수님을 사랑하고, 주님의 시신에 기름을 바르려고 헌신했던 여인들이 예수님의 부활을 목격한 첫 증인이 되었다고 기록하고 있습니다. 예수님을 사랑하는 자들이 예수님의 사랑을 입으며, 예수님을 간절히 찾는 자가 예수님을 만날 것입니다.
예수님의 시신이 안치된 무덤 입구에는 큰 돌로 막혀 있었습니다. 총독 빌라도가 예수님의 시신을 아무도 훔쳐 가지 못하도록 하기 위해서 설치해 둔 돌로, 힘 센 장정 서너 명이 있어야 움직일 수 있는 돌입니다. 무덤으로 가는 도중, 여인들은 “무덤 입구를 가로 막고 있는 저 크고 무거운 돌을 누가 그녀들을 위해서 굴려 줄 수 있을까?”하고 염려했습니다. 그런데 막상 무덤에 가까이 가자, 그들이 염려했던 돌은 이미 옮겨져 있었고, 무덤 입구는 활짝 열려 있었습니다. 이 광경을 본 여인들은 예수님의 시신을 도둑맞았다고 생각했습니다. 그러나 사실 그 무덤 입구의 돌은 사람의 힘에 의해 움직여진 것이 아니라, 하나님께서 보내신 천사가 움직인 것이었습니다.
마태복음 28장 2-4절 말씀을 함께 읽겠습니다. “(마 28:2) [쉬운성경] 그 때, 강한 지진이 일어나고, 하나님의 천사가 하늘에서 내려왔습니다. 그 천사는 돌을 굴려 치우고, 그 위에 앉았습니다. (마 28:3) [쉬운성경] 그 모습은 번개와 같았고, 옷은 눈처럼 희었습니다. (마 28:4) [쉬운성경] 경비병들이 그 천사를 보고 두려워 떨었고, 마치 죽은 사람처럼 되었습니다.” 천사가 어떻게 생겼는지 궁금하셨던 분들은 3절 말씀을 보십시오. 그 모습은 번개와 같았고, 옷은 눈처럼 하얗다고 합니다. 천사가 강한 지진과 함께 하늘에서 내려와 무덤 입구를 가로 막고 있는 돌을 굴러 치우고, 그 위에 앉아 있었습니다. 무덤을 지키고 있던 경비병들은 천사를 보고 두려워 떨었고, 마치 죽은 사람처럼 땅에 납작 엎드려 있었습니다.
천사는 예수님의 부활 소식을 여인들에게 전해주기 위해서 하늘에서 내려왔습니다. 천사가 여인들에게 전해준 예수님의 부활 소식을 함께 읽어봅시다. 마태복음 28장 5-7절 말씀입니다. “(마 28:5) [쉬운성경] 천사가 그 여자들에게 말했습니다. “두려워하지 마라. 너희가 십자가에 못박히신 예수님을 찾고 있다는 것을 알고 있다. (마 28:6) [쉬운성경] 예수님은 여기 계시지 않다. 말씀하신 대로 다시 살아나셨다. 와서 예수님이 누우셨던 곳을 보아라. (마 28:7) [쉬운성경] 그리고 빨리 가서 제자들에게 이렇게 말하여라. ‘예수님께서 죽음에서 다시 살아나셨습니다. 그리고 먼저 갈릴리로 가셨습니다. 거기서 예수님을 뵐 수 있을 것입니다.’ 보아라, 이것이 내가 너희에게 전할 말이다.”
천사가 여인들에게 전하여 준 이야기는 크게 3가지입니다. (1) 예수님께서 말씀대로 다시 살아나셨다! (2) 와서 빈 무덤을 보아라! (3) 빨리 가서 제자들에게 예수님의 부활 소식을 전해라! 입니다. 천사가 전해준 예수님의 부활 소식을 접한 여인들은 어떻게 반응했을까요? 마태복음 28장 8절 말씀을 봅시다. “(마 28:8) [쉬운성경] 여자들은 재빨리 무덤을 떠났습니다. 그들은 두려우면서도 매우 기뻤습니다. 그들은 제자들에게 이 소식을 전해주려고 달려갔습니다.” 여인들은 천사를 만났다는 사실과 십자가에 달려 돌아가신 예수님께서 사망 권세를 이기시고 다시 살아나셨다는 사실에 큰 두려움을 느꼈습니다.
그러나 동시에 그녀들의 마음에는 매우 큰 기쁨이 임했습니다. 왜냐하면 십자가에 달려 돌아가신 예수님께서 부활하심은, 예수님께서 살아 계실 때 말씀하신 대로 그 분이 하나님께서 보내신 메시아 곧 구원자 되심을 확실하게 증거하기 때문입니다. 또한 부활하신 예수님을 다시 볼 수 있을 것이란 생각에 여인들은 크게 기뻐했습니다. 여인들은 천사가 전해준 대로 예수님의 부활소식을 제자들에게 들려주기 위해서 기쁜 마음으로 한 걸음에 제자들이 머무르고 있는 장소로 달려 갔습니다.
- 부활하신 예수님을 만난 여인들의 반응
이 때 아주 놀라운 한 가지 사건이 발생합니다. 9절 말씀을 함께 읽겠습니다. “(마 28:9) [쉬운성경] 그 때, 갑자기 예수님께서 여자들에게 나타나셔서 말씀하셨습니다. “잘 있었느냐?” 여자들은 예수님께 다가가서 그분의 발을 붙잡고 절했습니다.” 부활하신 예수님께서 여인들 앞에 직접 나타나셨습니다! 부활하신 예수님을 다시 만난 그 순간, 이 여인들이 느꼈을 감동, 기쁨, 희열을 우리가 어떻게 말로 다 표현할 수 있을까요? 부활하신 예수님께서 그녀들에게 “평안하느냐?”하고 인사하자, 여인들은 예수님께 다가가서 그분의 발을 붙잡고 절했습니다. 이 여인들이 주님의 발을 잡고 엎드려 절했다는 것은, 그녀들이 예수님께 경배했음을 의미합니다.
이 여인들은 예수님께서 십자가에 달려 죽으시는 모습을 직접 현장에서 지켜 본 증인들입니다. 예수님의 두 손과 두 발에 못이 박히는 것을 보았고, 예수님께서 마지막으로 숨을 거두시는 모습도 보았습니다. 또한 로마 병사가 예수님의 죽음을 확인하기 위해서 십자가에 달리신 예수님의 옆구리에 창이 깊숙이 찌르는 모습도 모두 다 보았습니다. 예수님께서 십자가에 달려 돌아가셨음에는 의심의 여지가 없었습니다. 분명 그녀들 눈 앞에서 십자가에 달려 돌아가셨던 예수님께서 다시 살아나셔서 이 여인들 앞에 부활하신 영광의 몸으로 나타나셨으니, 이 여인들은 예수님 앞에 엎드려 경배할 수밖에 없었습니다.
성경은 이 세상에서 인간의 경배를 받으실 분은 오직 한 분 하나님 밖에는 없다고 가르치고 있습니다. 따라서 이 여인들이 예수님 앞에 경배하였다는 것은, 이들이 예수님을 하나님의 아들이며, 곧 하나님으로 고백했다는 것을 의미합니다. 맞습니다. 하나님께서 인간을 구원하기 위해 보내신 메시아가 바로 예수님이십니다. 예수님이 곧 하나님이십니다. 누구든지 이 사실을 깨닫는 사람은 이 여인들처럼 예수님을 믿음으로 붙잡고, 예수님 앞에 엎드려 주님께 경배하게 될 것입니다. 여기 있는 우리들 모두가 이 여인들과 같이 부활하신 예수님을 만나고, 부활하신 예수님께서 곧 사망 권세를 이기신 구원자 되심을 고백하며 그 분 앞에 엎드려 경배할 수 있는 믿음이 있기를 축복합니다.
부활하신 예수님은 여인들에게 다음과 같이 말씀하셨습니다. 10절입니다. “(마 28:10) [쉬운성경] 그러자 예수님께서 말씀하셨습니다. “두려워하지 마라. 가서 내 형제들에게 갈릴리로 가라고 말하여라. 거기서 그들이 나를 볼 것이다” 예수님은 여인들에게 “두려워하지 말라” 말씀하시고, 갈릴리로 가서 주님의 제자들에게 예수님의 부활 소식을 전하여 주라고 말씀하셨습니다. 여인들은 예수님의 말씀대로 제자들에게 가서 예수님의 부활 소식을 전하였습니다. 그리고 여인들이 전해준 예수님의 부활소식을 접한 예수님의 제자들은 또 다른 사람들에게 예수님의 부활 소식을 전했습니다. 그리고 제자들이 전해준 부활 소식을 들은 사람들은 다시 또 더 많은 사람들에게 예수님의 부활 소식을 전했습니다.
그와 같은 방법으로 교회와 예수님을 따르는 무리들은 지난 2천년 동안 지금까지 이어져 왔습니다. 우리들도 누군가가 전해준 예수님의 부활 소식을 접하였기에 지금 이 자리에 있는 것입니다. 이제는 우리들 차례입니다. 아직도 이 세상에는 예수님의 십자가 죽음과 부활에 대해서 알지 못하는 사람들이 수두룩합니다. 예수님은 우리가 이 소식을 날마다 전하며 살아가기를 원하십니다. 혹시 이 자리에도 아직 예수님의 부활을 믿지 못하는 분이 계시지는 않습니까? 하나님께서 여러분에게도 예수님을 받아들일 수 있는 믿음의 선물을 주시길 축복합니다.
오늘 부활하신 예수님을 만난 여인들에게는 총 3가지 반응이 있었습니다. 첫째로 그녀들에게는 큰 기쁨이 있었습니다. 예수님의 부활은 곧 주님을 믿는 모든 성도들이 마지막 날에 사망 권세를 이기고 주님과 함께 부활하게 될 것을 의미합니다. 예수님을 믿는 우리 모두에게 예수님의 부활소식이 우리 모두에게 기쁨의 소식이 되기를 바랍니다. 둘째로, 그녀들은 예수님을 경배했습니다. 그들은 죽음을 이기고 부활하신 예수 그리스도가 하나님께서 보내신 메시아 곧 구원자이심을 확실하게 믿었습니다. 예수님이 우리 죄를 위해서 십자가를 지시고 부활하신 분이라는 사실을 깨닫는 순간 우리들도 이 여인들과 같이 주님 앞에 엎드려 경배하게 될 것입니다. 이러한 경배가 있기를 바랍니다. 셋째로, 그녀들은 예수님의 부활소식을 전파했습니다. 누구든지 예수의 부활 소식을 믿는 사람은 그 소식을 다른 이들에게 전할 수밖에 없습니다. 왜냐하면 이 세상에서 이보다 더 기쁘고 중요한 사건은 없기 때문입니다.
사랑하는 성도 여러분, 우리들은 말씀 속 여인들처럼 예수님의 부활을 직접 눈으로 목격하지는 못했습니다. 그러나 하나님께서 보내신 성령님의 역사를 통해 지금도 수많은 사람들이 예수님께서 사망 권세 이기고 부활하셨음을 믿고 살아가고 있습니다. 예수님의 부활을 받아들이는 믿음은 하나님께서 주시는 선물입니다. 성도들은 성령께서 주시는 예수 믿는 믿음을 선물로 받은 복된 사람들입니다. 이제 우리 코너스톤 교회 모든 성도가, 부활하신 주님으로 말미암아 날마다 기쁨으로 살아가며, 부활하신 주님만을 찬양하고 경배하며, 세상으로 나아가 우리 죄를 위해 십자가를 지시고 죽으시고, 사망 권세 이기시고 부활하신 예수 그리스도를 이웃들에게 전하며 살아가는 부활의 증인들 되기를 주님의 이름으로 축복합니다.
